“The Chicago Public School System is the third largest School District in the United States,
and is comprised of more than 650 schools, 440,000 students and 40,000 employees,
with a budget of more than $6 billion.” Even with these numbers, art and music programs
have been cut from every school. In Norwood Park School, a K-8 school, parents hold fundraisers
to pay for the salary of their art and music teachers. They do not have classrooms, the music class
is conducted in the auditorium and the art classes are in the former lunchroom.
